Priorities

More outdoor play facilities for young people.

Nicer green spaces to sit in and relax

More tree planting on streets.

Better public spaces on Commercial Road.

The plan below shows the analysis of the green and public spaces around Commercial Road and Alexandra Road. The main points identified by the analysis are summarised below:

  • There are limited public spaces for local people to socialise in.

  • Commercial Road has a series of public areas, but they are of poor quality and in some cases blighted by derelict buildings, flytipping and anti-social behaviour.

  • The quality of local footways are limited, with poor quality surfaces and in some areas limited lighting.

  • The southern gateway into Pill is characterised by lots of vehicle movement.

  • The northern gateway into Commercial Road has been recently enhanced, but the improvement does not travel down Commercial Road.

  • There are not many green spaces for the local community to use.

  • Courtybella Terrace is a green street that adjoins Pill Park and could be better utilised as a green space resource.

  • St Paul’s and St Stephen’s with Holy Trinity has a pleasant green setting and is well located to become a pleasant green space.

  • There are a number of well used allotments that provide growing spaces for the community.
